Pediatric Compounding for Finicky Kids

Posted on: February 19th, 2013 by JurosMedicalBlogger No Comments

How squeamish, finicky or avoidant are your kids or grandkids when it comes to taking medicine? Children can present many problems when it comes to taking medicine, whether it’s the taste, form of the medication or another problem. Also, many commercially available medications do not come with the right dose or strength for kids, leaving them with either not enough or too much medication.

If getting your child to take their medicine has become a problem, pediatric compounding could be the perfect solution.

Pediatric compounding from Juro’s Compounding Center provides solutions to all of those problems. Our certified pharmacists can customize a medication in a flavor that appeals to your child, is in a form that is easy for them to take and that is the right dosage for their size and weight.

By adding flavors to the medication, we can create a medication your child will actually look forward to taking. Some of our available flavors include apple, chocolate, grape, root beer, strawberry and many more.

Not only will your child’s medication taste great, but it will also come in a form that is easy for them to take. Not being able to swallow pills is not a problem. We can create a medication in an easy-to-take form such as a lozenge, freezer pop, lollipop or gummy bear. Our pharmacists can also compound medication into a topical cream or gel for absorption through the skin.

Flavor and medication form are important, but dosage strength is vital to your child’s treatment. Most medications are not suited for the smaller size and weight of pediatric patients, but that is a difficulty that is easy to overcome with Juro’s Compounding Center. We will work with your child’s physician to create a product that is the exact dosage required.

Your children are you world, so why leave their medications to chance? Come by our Compounding Center today to see how we can customize your child’s medications for a better overall experience.

Compounding: Conquering Chronic Winter Pain

Posted on: January 29th, 2013 by JurosMedicalBlogger No Comments

We have discussed in prior blog posts the occurrence of increased pain in joints and other body parts during the winter. For those who are in constant, chronic pain, the winter can bring higher pain and stiffness levels from the cold weather and increased atmospheric pressure. Whether it is pain associated with conditions like arthritis or fibromyalgia, nerve or muscle issues or other pain, it is all worse during the winter.

Compounding provides for a customized solution for your chronic pain, both in dosage and dose form.

If you have had enough of the aches that are never quite relieved by your current medication, it may be time for you to try custom chronic pain compounding from Juro’s Pharmacy Health and Wellness. In this process, our compounding pharmacists can create a custom pain medication unique to you.

We work with your physician to provide you with a unique solution for your pain. When it comes to medications, one size does not fit all. Our pharmacists can customize the dosage size and strength to fit both your size and pain reduction pains. We can also help prevent the side effects of many pain medications such as an upset stomach by creating medication that is delivered in a different form. Topical gels, creams, sprays, lozenges or troches are all alternative forms that your medication can be delivered in.

We can also make those multiple pill bottles disappear by combining your medications into one easy-to-use topical gel, cream or other form. By merging together all of your pain medications into one solution, you no longer have to worry about managing multiple pill bottles and dealing with the resulting confusion.

Compounding for your chronic pain, especially in the winter, can drastically improve your daily life and leave you feeling much better. Call or come by Juro’s Pharmacy Health and Wellness to see how we can help you overcome your chronic pain this winter!

Compounding and Sports Medicine: A Solution to Aches and Pains

You’re a weekend warrior who plays in a slow-pitch softball league with your friends on Sundays. It’s your turn to bat, and you rip the ball deep into the corner. As you round first base you suddenly feel a sharp pain in the back of your leg. After easing into second base you call for a pinch runner and limp back to the dugout, the pain increasing with every step. You have just pulled your hamstring, and as the realization sets in you begin to think about your options.

Use compounding pharmaceuticals for muscles aches and pains.

Up until this point dealing with injuries was always the same. The RICE system (rest, ice, compress, elevate) had worked well in the past, so why not go with that? However, you may be interested to know that there is another way, mostly known only to professional athletes and trainers, to alleviate the pain.

Compounding, the process of combining a set of ingredients into a pharmaceutical product, in sports medicine has been shown to have enormous benefits for the injured athlete. This stems from the pharmacists ability to work closely with the trainers or team doctors to customize the dosage strengths, potency and delivery system of the compound to fit the athlete.

Juros’ Home Medical & Pharmacy’s Compounding Center provides sports medicine compounding for everyone from the weekend warrior with a pulled hamstring to serious athletes looking for a more proficient way to heal their injuries. With the ability to create topical creams, transdermal gels or other solutions to get a more efficient healing effect from the anti-flammatory, muscle relaxant or other medications, Juro’s helps speed up the recovery process in a safe manner.

No matter your skill level, sport or competition Juro’s can create the custom compound you need to heal your body and get back to the sport you love. Next time you feel the pain of a serious injury or are aching during the week after a weekend of sports, call on Juro’s Medical & Pharmacy’s Compounding Center to get you back out on the field.

Curious about Compounding: What is it and how can it benefit me?

Compounding

Compounding, in the use we are referring to, is the mixing of drugs by a Compounding Pharmacist to customize a medicine to fit your unique needs.  Compounding has actually been around for hundreds of year, but became less practiced when mass medication production entered the market.  Mass medication production can, in some cases, make medicine more affordable, but can be less effective because the dosing is created to fit a large population and not catered to unique individual needs.

Compounding can make medicine easier to take.

Through compounding your medication, you choose the form that it comes in.  We can change your dosage forms to:

  • Troches/sublinguals
  • Capsules
  • Lollipops
  • Gels (oral, topical)
  • Mouthwashes and rinses
  • Oral & topical sprays

Add flavoring to your child medication or your pet’s medication to make it more appealing.  The options are endless and can make your little patient at home much happier.

Compounding can take away some side-effects.

In pain management medications, patients often suffer from stomach irritation or other uncomfortable side-effects in their gastrointestinal tract or other digestive areas of the body because the medicine prescribed comes in oral form.  How much more would it benefit the patient if the medicine could be transformed into a topical gel applied straight to the problem area and bypass the stomach completely?  This is just one example of how compounding can take away side-effects.

Compounding can adjust dosage strength to fit you.

Many times, mass produced medication is designed to cover a variety of symptoms associated with a certain diagnosis.  However, in many cases your diagnosis may be common, but your body’s reaction is unique.  Through working with a Compounding Pharmacist, you can adjust your dosage strength to target the specific symptoms you are experiencing.

Have you worked with a Compounding Pharmacist to customize your medications?  If not, does this sound like it could benefit you?
