We have discussed in prior blog posts the occurrence of increased pain in joints and other body parts during the winter. For those who are in constant, chronic pain, the winter can bring higher pain and stiffness levels from the cold weather and increased atmospheric pressure. Whether it is pain associated with conditions like arthritis or fibromyalgia, nerve or muscle issues or other pain, it is all worse during the winter.
Compounding provides for a customized solution for your chronic pain, both in dosage and dose form.
If you have had enough of the aches that are never quite relieved by your current medication, it may be time for you to try custom chronic pain compounding from Juro’s Pharmacy Health and Wellness. In this process, our compounding pharmacists can create a custom pain medication unique to you.
We work with your physician to provide you with a unique solution for your pain. When it comes to medications, one size does not fit all. Our pharmacists can customize the dosage size and strength to fit both your size and pain reduction pains. We can also help prevent the side effects of many pain medications such as an upset stomach by creating medication that is delivered in a different form. Topical gels, creams, sprays, lozenges or troches are all alternative forms that your medication can be delivered in.
We can also make those multiple pill bottles disappear by combining your medications into one easy-to-use topical gel, cream or other form. By merging together all of your pain medications into one solution, you no longer have to worry about managing multiple pill bottles and dealing with the resulting confusion.
Compounding for your chronic pain, especially in the winter, can drastically improve your daily life and leave you feeling much better. Call or come by Juro’s Pharmacy Health and Wellness to see how we can help you overcome your chronic pain this winter!

Our pets can be as much a part of our family as we are. We play with them, feed them, get mad at them when we they make a mess and most importantly, take care of them when they get sick. However, most pets who have been to the veterinarian’s office recognize when they are being taken there or are very finicky when it comes to taking medications. For example, cats have been known to eat right around even the smallest of solid medications in their food. This and other problems can be solved through veterinary compounding.
Our compounding specialists can take your pet’s medication and mix it with flavoring that will make your pets want to eat it.
Veterinary compounding follows the same concept that compounding for humans does. It combines medications and other ingredients into pharmaceutical solutions for our small pets. One problem that veterinary compounding can solve is the flavor of the medicine. Like humans, most pets will not easily swallow a medication that has a taste the find unpleasant. Our compounding specialists can take your pet’s medication and mix it with flavoring that will make your pets want to eat it. Those finicky cats that ate around their medication will devour it once it tastes like tuna!
Again, just like humans, pets come in all sorts of sizes and shapes, meaning that a dosage that’s appropriate for an 80-pound golden retriever is not appropriate for a 10-pound chihuahua. While most medication tablets come in 100mg dosages or higher, your pet may only need 15-20mg at a time. Juro’s compounding pharmacists can create a custom dosage for your pet that better suits them.
We can also help if a manufacturer has discontinued a medication that worked well for your pet. We can create a prescription based on the medication at the correct dosage for your pet so that they can continue taking the medication that has benefited them in the past.
Pets can friends and family members for life, whether it’s a dog, cat, bird, snake, hamster or other animal. Keeping them in good health is part of owning them, and the Juro’s Compounding Center can help you do just that with our custom compounding solutions.

It’s normal for us to experience acute or temporary pain for a period after an accident, a broken bone, dental work, burns or cuts. This is how our bodies tell us something is wrong. However, acute pain can turn into chronic pain if it lasts longer than it should when pain signals remain active in the nervous system for weeks, months or years. This is a sign that our bodies are still under stress, and most of us go to doctors to try and relieve this kind of pain with anti-inflammatory medications, acetaminophen, painkillers like codeine or morphine or localized anesthetics. However, all of these solutions come with side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness or stomach irritation. Another solution to chronic pain management is compounding.
Compounding allows our pharmacists to take the pain relief of oral painkillers and combine it with a topical gel, cream or spray that won’t cause you any stomach irritation.
Compounding, the art of combining different ingredients into a pharmaceutical treatment, is effective in chronic pain management because it not only helps relieve your pain, but does so with little to no side effects like the painkillers do. Another reason that compounding can be very effective is because it can be customized. Our pharmacists can work with you and your doctor to not only choose the correct strength and dosage levels, but also the form in which you will receive your treatment.
Most pain relief medications are taken orally, but these can cause stomach irritation, or in the case of more powerful painkillers like codeine, can make you feel drowsy, dizzy, or slightly loopy. Compounding allows our pharmacists to take the pain relief of oral painkillers and combine it with a topical gel, cream or spray that won’t cause you any stomach irritation. Other forms of delivery include nasal sprays, lozenges or flavored troches.
Chronic pain doesn’t have to ruin your life, and you don’t have to compromise with the side effects of normal painkillers just to manage your pain. Compounding from Juro’s Compounding Center can help you better manage pain and live your life how you want.

Dental compounding from Juro's can make you feel more relaxed the next time your in this position.
No one enjoys going to the dentist’s office. In fact, fear of the dentist is prevalent in the United States, with about three-fourths of the adult population having mild to severe fear of seeing a dentist. However, the Compounding Center at Juro’s Medical and Pharmacy can provide a way to make your next visit to the dentist less stressful.
Our compounding pharmacists, in cooperation with a dentist, can prescribe you medications to ease your anxiety about dental procedures, as well as for numbing and pain relief in a form that you can tolerate. For example, most local anesthetics in dentistry are administered with a needle. For patients with needle anxiety, we can create an anesthetic in several other forms, such as topical gels, pastes, lozenges or even lollipops to ease your apprehension.
Another stressor with dental procedures and care that we can help you with is the taste of certain medications. Many dental rinses, solutions and gels have an accompanying taste that is less than tasteful. For this problem, Juro’s offers flavoring solutions delivered in a form that you prefer. A dry socket mixture that is normally bitter and leaves a bad taste in your mouth can be compounded to taste like chocolate with the simple addition of chocolate flavor. Imagine skipping the acrid taste of your tooth-bleaching system and instead experiencing the zesty taste of citrus mint. What kid wouldn’t skip getting a shot for an anesthetic in favor of a grape sucker that did the same thing?
Our mission in dental compounding is to make you feel as comfortable as possible in going to the dentist, having a procedure done or practicing better dental health at home. If you find yourself cringing at the thought of going to the dentist or experiencing the terrible taste of your oral rinse, contact the Compounding Center at Juro’s Medical and Pharmacy and find a solution to your dental hang-ups.

You’re a weekend warrior who plays in a slow-pitch softball league with your friends on Sundays. It’s your turn to bat, and you rip the ball deep into the corner. As you round first base you suddenly feel a sharp pain in the back of your leg. After easing into second base you call for a pinch runner and limp back to the dugout, the pain increasing with every step. You have just pulled your hamstring, and as the realization sets in you begin to think about your options.
Use compounding pharmaceuticals for muscles aches and pains.
Up until this point dealing with injuries was always the same. The RICE system (rest, ice, compress, elevate) had worked well in the past, so why not go with that? However, you may be interested to know that there is another way, mostly known only to professional athletes and trainers, to alleviate the pain.
Compounding, the process of combining a set of ingredients into a pharmaceutical product, in sports medicine has been shown to have enormous benefits for the injured athlete. This stems from the pharmacists ability to work closely with the trainers or team doctors to customize the dosage strengths, potency and delivery system of the compound to fit the athlete.
Juros’ Home Medical & Pharmacy’s Compounding Center provides sports medicine compounding for everyone from the weekend warrior with a pulled hamstring to serious athletes looking for a more proficient way to heal their injuries. With the ability to create topical creams, transdermal gels or other solutions to get a more efficient healing effect from the anti-flammatory, muscle relaxant or other medications, Juro’s helps speed up the recovery process in a safe manner.
No matter your skill level, sport or competition Juro’s can create the custom compound you need to heal your body and get back to the sport you love. Next time you feel the pain of a serious injury or are aching during the week after a weekend of sports, call on Juro’s Medical & Pharmacy’s Compounding Center to get you back out on the field.

The latest news on menopause is that THERE IS NO CURE. Well, that’s not the latest news. This fact has been known for a long time, but fortunately there are newer ways to ease menopause symptoms.
 Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement
We’ve all heard of Hormone Replacement Therapy, which can be very effective, but how often do you find yourself having the exact same symptoms as other women you know suffering from menopause? You may be experiencing hot flashes and PMS while your friend’s symptoms are purely emotional. As women, we are complex creatures who are all built differently. Shouldn’t your menopause treatments be designed for you and your unique symptoms?
The answer may be Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement with a Compounding Pharmacist. Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement is actually a natural hormone replacement as opposed to the synthetic hormone that they use in traditional Hormone Replacement Therapy. Learn more about Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement.
The second part of this treatment is the compounding aspect. Last week’
s blog Curious about Compounding described what compounding is. Now, let’s discuss how it is effective in menopause. We have a Compounding Pharmacist on staff that works with you and your doctor to create a treatment designed for your unique needs, as we described above. This is a process in which we adjust dosage and substance of medication as we learn more about what your body responds best to.

 Compounding
Compounding, in the use we are referring to, is the mixing of drugs by a Compounding Pharmacist to customize a medicine to fit your unique needs. Compounding has actually been around for hundreds of year, but became less practiced when mass medication production entered the market. Mass medication production can, in some cases, make medicine more affordable, but can be less effective because the dosing is created to fit a large population and not catered to unique individual needs.
Compounding can make medicine easier to take.
Through compounding your medication, you choose the form that it comes in. We can change your dosage forms to:
- Troches/sublinguals
- Capsules
- Lollipops
- Gels (oral, topical)
- Mouthwashes and rinses
- Oral & topical sprays
Add flavoring to your child medication or your pet’s medication to make it more appealing. The options are endless and can make your little patient at home much happier.
Compounding can take away some side-effects.
In pain management medications, patients often suffer from stomach irritation or other uncomfortable side-effects in their gastrointestinal tract or other digestive areas of the body because the medicine prescribed comes in oral form. How much more would it benefit the patient if the medicine could be transformed into a topical gel applied straight to the problem area and bypass the stomach completely? This is just one example of how compounding can take away side-effects.
Compounding can adjust dosage strength to fit you.
Many times, mass produced medication is designed to cover a variety of symptoms associated with a certain diagnosis. However, in many cases your diagnosis may be common, but your body’s reaction is unique. Through working with a Compounding Pharmacist, you can adjust your dosage strength to target the specific symptoms you are experiencing.
Have you worked with a Compounding Pharmacist to customize your medications? If not, does this sound like it could benefit you?
